Product Overview
UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) balls are high-performance thermoplastic spheres recognized for their exceptional wear resistance, impact strength, and extremely low coefficient of friction. With a molecular weight of 3 to 6 million g/mol, UHMWPE outperforms standard engineering plastics in abrasive environments. Designed as slurry pump check balls and impact-resistant plastic balls, these spheres resist cracking and abrasive wear when handling industrial mining slurries, concrete feeds, and particulate-laden wastewater. UHMWPE is highly resistant to corrosive chemicals, including strong acids and bases, and absorbs virtually zero moisture.
Key Technical Features of UHMWPE
Abrasion Resistance
Outstanding wear resistance in abrasive chemical slurry applications.
Low Coefficient of Friction
Coefficient of friction of ~0.15 provides self-lubricated performance.
High Impact Strength
Absorbs mechanical impacts and shocks without cracking or breaking.
Zero Moisture Absorption
Hydrophobic material remains dimensionally stable in water and steam.
Chemical Inertness
Outstanding resistance to strong acids, bases, and organic solvents.
Sub-Zero Temperature Range
Retains high impact resistance down to -150°C.
Lightweight Design
Low density (~0.94 g/cm³) reduces mechanical inertia in dynamic systems.
FDA Compliant
Natural unreinforced resin is safe for food processing and sanitary systems.

UHMWPE Compression & Machining Process
Resin Sourcing: High molecular weight polyethylene powders (molecular weight 3.5M+ g/mol) are used.
Compression Molding: Raw powder is filled into heavy dies and molded at high compaction pressures to prevent voids.
Thermal Sintering: Molded billets undergo a controlled thermal schedule to fuse the polymer chains.
Precision Grinding: Sintered rounds are turned on CNC lathes and centerless ground to achieve spherical roundness.
Quality Audit: Sphericity and wear resistance indicators are verified in our inspection room.
Typical UHMWPE Ball Applications
UHMWPE balls are chosen for abrasive wear and demanding chemical containment:
Abrasive Slurry Pumps
Used as reciprocating check spheres in slurry transfer pumps handling sand, clay, or ash.
Mining Flow Valves
Provides chemical and wear resistant flow control in acidic mining wash lines.
Food Conveyors
FDA-compliant wear elements in grain and bulk food handling conveyor assemblies.
Marine Sliders & Roller Bearings
Low friction spheres operating in saltwater environments without corrosion or swelling.
Wastewater Sealing Valves
Check spheres in wastewater treatment valves, resisting grit and chemicals.
Pneumatic Conveying Systems
Acts as diversion and flow control elements handling abrasive powders.
Why Choose Hemsun Engg. Industries?
Hemsun Engg. Industries manufactures UHMWPE spheres using unreinforced resins with a molecular weight exceeding 3 million g/mol. This high molecular density ensures superior wear life compared to cheap low-density polyethylenes. We control the molding and grinding parameters in-house, ensuring our balls are free of internal voids or molding stresses that could lead to premature failure.

Manufacturing precision polymer spheres in India since 1990.
Direct OEM Supply
Complete in-house molding, sintering, and centerless grinding control.
100% Quality Audited
Full roundness, surface finish, and void-free inspection checks.
Custom Machining
Die fabrication to drawings for specialized diameters and features.
Material Comparison: UHMWPE vs PTFE
Compare UHMWPE properties against PTFE to choose the correct material for your assembly.
| Technical Property | This Product (UHMWPE Balls) | Alternative / Alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| Abrasion Wear Resistance | Outstanding (best-in-class wear life in slurries) | Moderate (PTFE is softer and wears faster in gritty media) |
| Maximum Operating Temp | Up to +90°C (low thermal limit) | Up to +260°C (high thermal limit) |
| Sphericity & Machining | Moderate (material is tough and sticky to machine) | Excellent (high dimensional accuracy) |
| Dry Friction Coefficient | Low (~0.15) | Extremely Low (0.04 - 0.10) |
UHMWPE Balls FAQ
Why is UHMWPE better than PTFE for slurry applications?
UHMWPE has much higher abrasion resistance and toughness. It resists erosive wear from sand, grit, and particulates far better than softer PTFE.
Do UHMWPE balls float on water?
Yes. UHMWPE has a density of approximately 0.94 g/cm³, allowing it to float on water, which is useful in float valves and level indicators.
How is UHMWPE molded?
Because of its extremely high molecular weight, UHMWPE cannot be injection molded. It must be compression molded from powder under high pressure and temperature.
What is the maximum operating temperature of UHMWPE balls?
The maximum continuous operating temperature is +90°C. Exceeding this temperature causes the polymer to soften and lose its wear properties.
Is UHMWPE chemical resistant?
Yes. It offers excellent resistance to most acids, alkalis, and organic solvents, similar to PTFE, though it is not as universally resistant at high temperatures.
Are UHMWPE balls food safe?
Yes. Natural UHMWPE resin is FDA compliant and is widely used in grain silos, commercial food packaging, and food conveyor components.
