Product Overview
Nylon (Polyamide or PA) balls are tough, impact-resistant engineering spheres widely selected for their high mechanical strength, wear resistance, and self-lubricating properties. In mechanical systems, nylon balls serve as polyamide spheres, indexing detent balls, conveyor rollers, and non-return check valves. Unlike softer plastics, nylon possesses excellent structural toughness and resistance to abrasive wear, making it suitable for quiet-rolling conveyor elements and high-cycle pneumatic/hydraulic assemblies. Nylon has good chemical resistance to organic solvents, hydrocarbons, and oils, although it can absorb moisture over time, leading to minor dimensional swelling in wet environments.
Key Technical Features of Nylon (PA)
High Wear Resistance
Outstanding resistance to friction and abrasive wear, ensuring a long life in mechanical systems.
Mechanical Toughness
High impact strength and resilience absorb shocks without cracking.
Self-Lubricating
Low friction properties reduce the need for external grease in sliding configurations.
Temperature Tolerance
Operates continuously from -40°C up to +110°C in dry conditions.
Good Solvent Resistance
Resistant to oils, grease, fuels, and organic solvents.
Noise Dampening
Absorbs vibration and operates quietly compared to metal spheres.
Precision Sphericity
Rigid structure allows centerless grinding to precise tolerances.
High Load Capacity
Better mechanical load limits than soft fluoropolymers like PTFE.
Available Nylon Ball Sizes
We manufacture nylon balls in standard metric and fractional sizes. The following table showcases standard diameters.

Nylon Molding & Precision Finishing Process
Material Selection: We utilize virgin Polyamide 6 (PA6) or Polyamide 66 (PA66) resin, depending on moisture limits.
Extrusion/Injection: The nylon resin is extruded into solid rods or injection-molded into preform blanks.
Annealing: Blanks undergo thermal annealing to relieve internal stress, ensuring they do not warp during grinding.
Precision Grinding: Centerless grinding machinery shapes and polishes the balls to tight roundness and surface quality.
Quality Audit: Spheres are checked for diameter and sphericity using digital gauges and optical instruments.
Typical Nylon Ball Applications
Nylon balls are common in mechanical and check-valve assemblies where wear resistance is critical:
Hydraulic Check Valves
Controls fluid flow in low-to-medium pressure hydraulic circuits, resisting oil degradation.
Conveyor Bearings
Used as light-duty rolling elements in industrial conveyor systems, operating quietly.
Pneumatic Detent Balls
Acts as spring-loaded indexing and detent elements in pneumatic controls and hand tools.
Toggle Valves
Integrated as sealing spheres in fast-acting mechanical toggle valves.
Flow Indicators
Bright natural or colored nylon balls serve as mechanical indicators in sight flow meters.
OEM Automotive Controls
Used in automotive gearboxes and seat slider mechanisms for smooth operation.

Nylon Balls FAQ
What is the difference between Nylon 6 and Nylon 66?
Nylon 66 offers higher mechanical hardness, stiffness, and heat resistance, whereas Nylon 6 has better impact strength and toughness, though it absorbs slightly more moisture.
Are nylon balls resistant to acids?
Nylon has poor resistance to concentrated mineral acids and oxidizing agents, but it has excellent resistance to organic solvents, oils, and alkalis.
What colors are available for nylon balls?
Our standard nylon balls are natural off-white. We can supply custom dyed colors for visual identification in volume orders.
Do nylon balls absorb water?
Yes. Nylon is hygroscopic and can absorb up to 2.5% to 8% water depending on humidity. This absorption causes minor dimensional expansion (swelling).
Can they operate without lubrication?
Yes. Polyamides are self-lubricating, making them excellent for dry-running bearings and low-speed slider mechanisms.
How do you check for internal voids?
We run density verification tests and sample cutting inspection to ensure our molded preforms are solid and free of internal voids.
