What is a Teflon Ball?
Teflon® is the widely recognized commercial brand name of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), a synthetic fluoropolymer discovered by Roy Plunkett. When buyers search for "Teflon balls," they are looking for solid, high-purity PTFE spheres. At Hemsun Engg. Industries, we mold our own custom preform billets, rods, and bushes in-house from premium SRF Flonio 120 and 210 virgin PTFE resins, along with GFL Inoflon 610 for compounds. Every preform is compacted at calculated recommended pressures (20–25 MPa for virgin/coloured grades) using custom-built presses and dies, then sintered in computer-controlled ovens under strictly calculated thermal curves to obtain maximum crystallization density, meeting exact mechanical/machining tolerances and roughness specifications from raw material datasheets.
Teflon balls are utilized in fluid flow control devices like ball valves, check valves, and pump components. Because of their non-wetting properties, extremely low friction coefficient, and resistance to chemical corrosion, they represent the ultimate choice for critical sealing applications in chemical, petrochemical, food, and pharmaceutical systems.

Teflon / PTFE Characteristics
Teflon (PTFE) vs Other Engineering Plastic Balls
Compare Teflon properties with other commonly used B2B plastic ball materials like Nylon, Delrin (POM), and Polypropylene.
| Material | Temp. Limit | Chemical Resistance | Friction Coeff. | Water Absorption | Specific Gravity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Teflon (PTFE) | -200°C to +260°C | Outstanding (Universal) | 0.04 – 0.08 | < 0.01% | 2.15 |
| Delrin (POM) | -40°C to +90°C | Good (Solvents, Hydrocarbons) | 0.15 – 0.25 | 0.25% | 1.41 |
| Nylon (PA66) | -40°C to +110°C | Moderate (Weak Acids, Oils) | 0.20 – 0.30 | 1.50% | 1.14 |
| Polypropylene (PP) | 0°C to +80°C | Good (Acids, Alkalis) | 0.25 – 0.30 | 0.02% | 0.90 |
* Teflon (PTFE) offers the widest operational temperature range and the absolute lowest water absorption and friction among all industrial plastics.
Common Uses for Solid Teflon Balls
Industrial valves and equipment rely on Teflon spheres to ensure positive shut-off and chemical separation.
Check & Ball Valves
Teflon balls act as check elements in backflow preventers, liquid control valves, and chemical pumps, sealing securely against metal seats.
Gas & Air Regulators
Used as float components or indicators in dry gas flowmeters and diagnostic medical sensors due to their low weight and spherical roundness.
Paint & Ink Blending
Teflon spheres are used as mixing balls in high-viscosity coatings, chemicals, and cosmetics, resisting adhesion and clogging.
Marine Equipments
Providing saltwater corrosion-proof seals in bilge pumps, instrumentation panels, and control rigs on marine vessels.

Teflon Balls FAQ
Technical answers for valve OEMs and purchasing managers sourcing Teflon balls.
Do Teflon balls float in water?
No. Virgin Teflon has a density (specific gravity) of approximately 2.15 g/cm³, which is heavier than water (1.0 g/cm³). Therefore, solid Teflon balls will sink. If you require a floating ball, hollow PTFE balls or lighter plastics like Polypropylene are used.
Is there a difference in chemical resistance between DuPont Teflon and generic PTFE?
Chemically, pure PTFE resin has the same molecular structure (CF2-CF2)n, whether it is branded as Teflon® by Chemours or manufactured by other global producers. To guarantee equivalent or superior performance, Hemsun strictly utilizes SRF Flonio 120 and 210 virgin PTFE resins, and GFL Inoflon 610 for specialty compounds. We mold our own billets, rods, and bushes in-house under calculated MPa pressures (20–25 MPa for virgin) in custom-built presses and dies, followed by computer-controlled oven sintering to meet strict roughness, mechanical properties, and machining tolerance specifications according to raw material datasheets.
Are Teflon balls resistant to high-pressure valve cycles?
Pure Teflon balls possess mild compressive strength. In high-pressure applications where valves undergo frequent open/close cycles, we recommend using Glass-Filled (GF) or Carbon-Filled (CF) Teflon balls to minimize deformation and wear.
Can I send a physical sample for custom matching?
Yes. Send your physical sample to our toolroom in Gujarat. We will analyze the dimension, roundness, and material fill before scheduling a production batch to match your exact configuration.
