PTFE Hollow Balls

Hollow virgin PTFE spheres built from matched hemispheres — thermal fusion and chemical welding at the equator, then finished to diameter.

Product Overview

PTFE hollow balls are lightweight fluoropolymer spheres manufactured using a two-hemisphere construction method rather than solid compression molding from a single billet. At Hemsun Engg. Industries, each hollow ball is formed from two precision-matched virgin PTFE hemispheres. The equatorial joint is closed using controlled thermal fusion and chemical welding so the seam is fully bonded and chemically continuous with the parent PTFE — not a mechanical snap-fit or adhesive-only joint. This process delivers a true hollow interior with lower mass than a solid sphere of the same outer diameter, making hollow PTFE balls well suited to liquid-level floats, rotameter indicators, buoyancy elements, and OEM assemblies where reduced weight and predictable displacement matter. Outer diameters, wall thickness, and sphericity are finished on lathes and grinders after welding. We supply hollow PTFE balls to valve OEMs, instrumentation builders, and chemical-process equipment manufacturers who need virgin-grade chemical resistance without the mass of a solid ball.

Key Technical Features of PTFE Hollow Balls

Two-Hemisphere Construction

Each sphere is built from a matched pair of virgin PTFE half-shells for consistent wall geometry.

Thermal Fusion & Chemical Welding

Equatorial joints are bonded using controlled heat and fluoropolymer-compatible welding — not glue-only assembly.

Reduced Mass

Hollow construction lowers weight versus solid PTFE at the same outer diameter — useful for floats and low cracking-pressure check elements.

Chemical Inertness

Virgin PTFE shell retains the same acid, solvent, and CIP chemical resistance as solid virgin balls.

Temperature Range

Service from approximately -200°C to +260°C continuous, matching standard virgin PTFE limits.

Custom Wall Thickness

Wall thickness and outer diameter can be specified to match buoyancy, displacement, or seat-clearance requirements.

Post-Weld Finishing

Outer diameter, roundness, and surface finish are turned and ground after fusion for uniform sphericity.

Batch Traceability

Material test certificates available stating virgin resin grade, outer diameter, and inspection results.

Hollow PTFE Ball Manufacturing Process

01

Virgin Resin Selection: Hemispheres are molded from high-purity virgin PTFE powder (GFL Inoflon / SRF Flonio or equivalent) — no reprocessed scrap.

02

Hemisphere Molding: Two matched half-spheres are compression molded in dedicated dies at 20–25 MPa, then sintered to fuse the polymer structure before welding.

03

Pre-Weld Preparation: Hemisphere edges are machined flat and cleaned so the equatorial mating faces are free of contamination before fusion.

04

Thermal Fusion & Chemical Welding: The two hemispheres are aligned and joined at the equator using controlled thermal fusion and chemical welding to form a continuous PTFE bond.

05

Finishing & QC: The welded sphere is turned to final outer diameter, ground for roundness, and inspected for seam integrity, wall uniformity, and dimensional compliance.

Typical PTFE Hollow Ball Applications

Hollow PTFE balls are chosen when chemical resistance must be combined with lower mass or controlled buoyancy:

Liquid Level Floats

Buoyant hollow spheres in rotameters, sight glasses, and level indicators where reduced mass improves response.

Flow & Process Instrumentation

Indicator balls in chemical lines and sampling manifolds where virgin PTFE inertness is required.

Low-Mass Check Elements

Lighter check spheres where lower cracking pressure or faster seating response is needed versus solid balls.

Chemical Process Equipment

Hollow floats in corrosive media handling systems — acids, alkalis, and solvents that attack metals.

Food & Sanitary Lines

FDA-compliant virgin PTFE shells for CIP-compatible float and indicator applications.

Custom OEM Assemblies

Specified OD and wall thickness for proprietary valve, pump, or metering devices.

Why Choose Hemsun Engg. Industries?

Hemsun Engg. Industries manufactures hollow PTFE balls in-house at our Dahegam, Gujarat plant using the two-hemisphere thermal fusion and chemical welding method — the same virgin fluoropolymer grades we use for solid balls. We control hemisphere molding, sintering, welding parameters, and post-weld machining under one roof, so B2B buyers get traceable material, consistent seams, and direct factory pricing. Share your outer diameter, wall thickness, or buoyancy target and we will confirm feasibility and lead time.

100% Quality Audited

Full roundness, surface finish, and void-free inspection checks.

Custom Machining

Die fabrication to drawings for specialized diameters and features.

Hollow PTFE Balls vs Solid PTFE Balls

Choose hollow construction when weight or displacement matters; choose solid when maximum load capacity and seat sealing under pressure are primary.

PTFE Hollow Balls FAQ

How are PTFE hollow balls manufactured?

We form two virgin PTFE hemispheres by compression molding and sintering, mate the equatorial faces, and join them using controlled thermal fusion and chemical welding. The welded ball is then turned and ground to the specified outer diameter and roundness.

When should I choose hollow PTFE balls instead of solid?

Choose hollow when you need lower mass, buoyancy control, or faster float response. Choose solid virgin PTFE balls for high-compression valve seats and maximum load-bearing duty.

Are hollow PTFE balls leak-tight?

The equatorial joint is fusion-welded to form a continuous fluoropolymer shell. Each batch is visually and dimensionally inspected; hermetic requirements should be stated on the drawing so we can confirm test method.

What is the difference between thermal fusion and chemical welding for PTFE?

Thermal fusion uses controlled heat to soften and bond the PTFE surfaces at the joint. Chemical welding uses a fluoropolymer-compatible welding process at the interface so the seam becomes chemically continuous with the hemisphere material — not a separate adhesive layer.

Can you specify wall thickness?

Yes. Wall thickness is set during hemisphere die design and confirmed after welding and finishing. Provide target outer diameter, inner clearance, or buoyancy requirement on your RFQ.

What sizes of hollow PTFE balls do you make?

We manufacture hollow PTFE spheres across a range of outer diameters — typically from 12 mm upward — to drawing. See our size chart for solid ball references; hollow sizes are quoted per specification.
